The Danger of a Well-Worn Path

is that the Wolf always knows where to find you.

He observes your habits, learns your routines, then

extrapolates your most recent location

by noting picked-over raspberry bushes

square of red cloth

tattered spider’s web

trampled grass and

footprints your Doc Martens made through the mud.

He will find you at home, in bed, where

you feel most safe

and utterly disarm you

with his lupine charm.

Do not be fooled by his strong hands and his big eyes and his wide smile.

Rather, focus on the teeth that will slash your heart into ribbons before you even realize

it’s been snatched from your chest.
